What ConnectPrep Does

Comprehensive Graduate School Application Support

Graduate admissions is not just about test scores. It requires a strategy that aligns your profile, your story, and your application with the specific expectations of each program. ConnectPrep builds that strategy for you — and executes it alongside you from start to finish.

🎯

Program & School Selection

We build a balanced target list of reach, match, and likely programs based on your GPA, test scores, professional experience, and career goals. Furthermore, our advisors know what specific programs actually want in candidates — not just what the brochure says.
📝

Personal Statement & Essays

We help you find your story, structure your narrative, and write personal statements that stand out in competitive applicant pools. In addition, we draft and revise supplemental essays for every school on your list — tailored to each program’s specific prompts.
🎓

Test Prep & Score Strategy

We integrate test prep (GMAT, GRE, LSAT, MCAT) directly with your admissions strategy. Specifically, we advise on which test, when to take it, and what score is needed for your target schools — then build a personalized prep program to get you there.
🤵

Resume & CV Enhancement

We tailor your academic or professional resume to highlight the achievements, leadership, and outcomes that graduate admissions committees value most. Your resume becomes a strategic positioning document — not just a job history.
🗣

Interview Preparation

We run realistic mock interviews tailored to each program — whether it’s an MBA behavioral fit interview, a medical school MMI, a law school interview, or a PhD faculty meeting. As a result, students arrive on interview day composed and prepared.
💰

Scholarship & Funding Strategy

We identify fellowship, assistantship, and scholarship opportunities aligned with your profile. Moreover, we advise on financial aid negotiation and help students write compelling scholarship applications to maximize funding from their programs.

MBA • Finance Professional • 3 Years Experience

Marcus T.

“I didn’t think my GMAT score was competitive enough.”
580Starting GMAT
720Final GMAT
4 / 4Admitted / Applied

The challenge: Marcus came to ConnectPrep with a 580 GMAT and strong finance experience but had been told by a consultant that he needed to wait another year. He had three years at a bulge-bracket bank and a clear career goal in private equity — but his application materials were generic and his GMAT held him back.

  • 14-week GMAT program raised his score from 580 to 720 — 140 points
  • Career goals essay reframed around his specific PE thesis, not a generic finance narrative
  • Interview coaching included two full mock Wharton Team-Based Discussions
  • Admitted to Wharton (Round 2), Booth, Kellogg, and Stern — with a merit scholarship from Stern

“I went from thinking I needed to wait a year to getting into Wharton. The GMAT improvement was everything — but the essay work is what got me into four schools, not one.”

Law School • Recent Graduate • 3.6 GPA

Sofia R.

“I took the LSAT twice and plateaued at 163.”
163Starting LSAT
173Final LSAT
5 / 6Admitted / Applied

The challenge: Sofia had taken the LSAT twice and plateaued at 163 despite extensive self-study. She came to ConnectPrep six months before her third attempt with a 3.6 GPA from a state university and a strong desire to break into a T14 law school. Her personal statement was generic and underused her unique background in criminal justice reform advocacy.

  • Diagnostic revealed Logical Reasoning argument flaw questions were her single biggest point loss
  • Targeted 8-week Logical Reasoning intensive — argument structure, assumption identification, and flaw recognition
  • Personal statement completely rebuilt around her advocacy work — a compelling differentiated story
  • Raised LSAT to 173. Admitted to Penn Law, Georgetown, UCLA, and Vanderbilt with scholarship

“Two years of self-study and I was stuck at 163. Eight weeks with ConnectPrep and I scored a 173. The difference was understanding exactly what was breaking down in my Logical Reasoning approach.”

Medical School • Pre-Med • 3.7 GPA

Aisha M.

“My MCAT score wasn’t opening doors at my target schools.”
506Starting MCAT
516Final MCAT
6 / 8Admitted / Applied

The challenge: Aisha had a strong clinical record — 500 hours in a teaching hospital and published undergraduate research — but her MCAT 506 was below the median for most of her target MD programs. Furthermore, her personal statement was too clinical and failed to convey the human dimension of her motivation to practice medicine.

  • Identified CARS as her single largest point loss — built a specialized 6-week CARS module
  • Science sections raised through targeted biochemistry and physics review
  • Personal statement rebuilt around a specific patient encounter that crystalized her career decision
  • Admitted to 6 of 8 schools including UMich, Case Western, and Georgetown School of Medicine

“I was applying with a score that wasn’t opening doors. ConnectPrep identified exactly what was wrong, fixed it, and helped me write a personal statement that finally sounded like me.”

Computer Science Ph.D. • 3.9 GPA • Strong Research

Alexis T.

“My statement of purpose wasn’t connecting with faculty.”
3.9GPA
2 pubsResearch output
6 offersIncluding T3 CS

The challenge: Alexis had outstanding academic credentials — a 3.9 GPA, two publications, and strong recommendation letters. However, her statement of purpose read like a CV summary rather than a research proposal. It failed to articulate a specific research agenda or demonstrate genuine fit with any program’s existing faculty work.

  • Statement of purpose rebuilt around a specific research question she wanted to pursue
  • Faculty outreach strategy: identified 3 potential advisors per school and wrote tailored paragraphs for each
  • Academic CV restructured to lead with research contributions rather than coursework
  • Received offers from Stanford, MIT, CMU, UC Berkeley, UIUC, and University of Michigan

“I had the grades and the research — I just didn’t know how to communicate why I belonged at these programs. ConnectPrep helped me find that story.”

When should I start working with a graduate school advisor?
Ideally, 12–24 months before your application deadline — especially for medical school, which benefits most from a longer runway. However, we also work with students on shorter timelines. The sooner you start, furthermore, the more options you have for test prep, school selection, and essay development. Contact us and we’ll assess what’s realistic for your timeline.
Do you offer test prep as part of the advising program?
Yes — test prep is fully integrated with our advising program. We offer GMAT, GRE, LSAT, and MCAT prep alongside the application advising process. In fact, many of our best outcomes come from students who combine both because the test score strategy and the application strategy inform each other.

Programs & Schools

Which graduate programs do you advise for?
We advise for MBA, JD (law school), MD and DO (medical school), Masters, and Ph.D. programs across all disciplines. For law school applicants specifically, we cover all ABA-accredited programs including T14 schools. Additionally, we offer specialized BS/MD advising for high school students targeting direct medical programs. We also advise for graduate certificates, executive programs, and joint degrees.
Can you help me build my school list?
Absolutely. Building a balanced, realistic school list is one of the most important things we do early in the process. We analyze your GPA, test scores, work experience, and career goals against each program’s median ranges and admissions patterns to build a list of reach, target, and safety programs that genuinely excite you.

The Process

How many schools should I apply to?
It depends on the type of program. MBA applicants typically apply to 6–10 programs. Law school applicants often apply to 8–15. Medical school applicants typically apply to 15–25 schools given the low acceptance rates — see the AAMC applicant data for current benchmarks. Ph.D. applicants usually apply to 8–12. We advise on the right number for your specific profile and goals.
Do you help with waitlist strategy and scholarship negotiation?
Yes. Both are included in our full advising program. Specifically, we coach students on writing compelling letters of continued interest for waitlists, and we advise on how and when to negotiate financial aid packages — a conversation that can result in significant additional scholarship money.
