Why ConnectPrep

What Makes Our GMAT Tutoring Different

Kaplan and Manhattan Prep sell group courses. ConnectPrep teaches 1:1. Every session is built around exactly where your score is being lost — section by section, question type by question type — for students across Manhattan, Fairfield County, Westchester, and nationwide. See our results ›

1:1 Private — Always
Every session is private, built around your diagnostic scores, your weakest question types, and your target programs. No group calls, no generic curriculum. Your tutor's full attention, every minute.
Focus Edition Specialists
The GMAT Focus Edition is fundamentally different from the old GMAT. No AWA, no Sentence Correction, Data Insights is new. We prep students for the exam as it exists today — not recycled materials from the old format.
Data Insights Mastery
Data Insights is the most underestimated GMAT section. Most students focus on Quant and Verbal while neglecting DI — and lose significant points. ConnectPrep teaches all five DI question types explicitly, with a section-specific strategy for each.
Section Order Strategy
The GMAT Focus Edition lets you choose your section order. The right order depends on your relative section strengths and how test-taking confidence affects your performance. ConnectPrep advises each student on their optimal sequence — a strategic edge most programs skip entirely.
Working Professional Focus
Most ConnectPrep GMAT students are working professionals with limited study time. We build realistic 10–15 hour weekly plans around your job, time zone, and application deadlines. Evenings, early mornings, weekends — your schedule drives ours.
Select Score Strategy
The GMAT Focus Edition's Select Score feature lets you preview your score before deciding whether to report it to schools. ConnectPrep advises students on how to use this feature strategically as part of their overall application timeline.
GMAT Focus Edition Format

Three Sections, 64 Questions, 2 Hours 15 Minutes — What We Coach in Each

The GMAT Focus Edition is shorter, more focused, and fundamentally different from the old GMAT. Here is exactly what each section tests and how ConnectPrep prepares for it.

Quant
Quantitative Reasoning
21 questions 45 minutes Scored 60–90
Problem-solving only — no Data Sufficiency. Tests arithmetic, algebra, number properties, geometry (limited), rates, work problems, and probability. No calculator allowed. ConnectPrep focuses on efficient calculation techniques, algebraic reasoning shortcuts, and the specific question types that appear most frequently on official GMAC practice tests.
Verbal
Verbal Reasoning
23 questions 45 minutes Scored 60–90
Reading Comprehension and Critical Reasoning only — Sentence Correction is gone. RC passages cover business, science, and social science. CR questions test argument evaluation: strengthen, weaken, assumptions, bolden. ConnectPrep teaches argument identification and structured answer elimination for both question types.
DI
Data Insights
20 questions 45 minutes Calculator allowed
The newest section — most underestimated. Combines five question types: Data Sufficiency, Multi-Source Reasoning, Table Analysis, Graphics Interpretation, and Two-Part Analysis. Tests data literacy and real business analytical skills. ConnectPrep trains each question type separately before integrating all five under timed conditions.

Score Targets

What Score Do You Need? What ConnectPrep Targets.

A "good" GMAT score is the one that makes your target program list competitive. ConnectPrep sets score targets based on your specific schools, your work experience, your GPA, and your overall profile — not generic benchmarks.

645+
~85th %ile
Competitive for strong regional and national MBA programs with a strong overall application profile.
Strong regional & national programs
675+
~90th %ile
Competitive for most top-25 MBA programs and strengthens applications to M7 programs significantly.
Top 25 MBA programs
720+
~96th %ile
Near or above median at Harvard, Stanford, Wharton, Booth, Kellogg, Columbia, and MIT Sloan.
M7 programs
760+
~99th %ile
Exceptional score that exceeds the median at every top program. A significant application differentiator.
All top programs — top 1%

Section balance matters: A 720 total with balanced section scores (Quant ~85, Verbal ~82, DI ~82) reads differently than a 720 with a significant imbalance. Admissions committees at analytically demanding programs — finance, consulting, technology — look closely at individual section scores. ConnectPrep builds section-specific targets alongside total score targets.

Data Insights Mastery

Data Insights — The Section That Separates 680 From 720

Most GMAT students focus almost entirely on Quant and Verbal — and neglect Data Insights until the final weeks. That is where they lose points. DI is 20 questions worth exactly as much as the other two sections, and it has five distinct question types that require separate strategies. ConnectPrep trains each one explicitly from week one.

01
Data Sufficiency
Moved from Quant to DI in the Focus Edition. Tests whether you have enough information to answer a question — not whether you can actually solve it. The most counterintuitive question type on the GMAT. ConnectPrep teaches the elimination framework that removes most wrong answers in under 30 seconds.
02
Multi-Source Reasoning
Multiple information sources (tabs, charts, text) that must be synthesized to answer a series of questions. Tests the ability to identify relevant information and ignore noise. ConnectPrep teaches a tab-triage approach that prevents time waste on irrelevant content.
03
Table Analysis
A sortable table of data with statements to evaluate as true, false, or cannot be determined. Tests data reading precision and sorting strategy. ConnectPrep drills the column-sort logic that makes these questions fast and reliable rather than slow and error-prone.
04
Graphics Interpretation
Charts, graphs, and diagrams requiring fill-in-the-blank interpretation. Tests whether you can read visual data accurately and draw the precise inference the question requires. ConnectPrep teaches graph-type specific approaches for scatter plots, bar charts, and line graphs.
05
Two-Part Analysis
Two interdependent questions sharing a single setup — both must be answered correctly for any credit. The most complex DI question type. ConnectPrep trains the sequential decision process that prevents the common error of solving both parts independently.
Calculator Available
On-Screen Calculator Strategy
DI is the only section with an on-screen calculator. Knowing when to use it (and when it slows you down) is its own strategic skill. ConnectPrep trains students on which calculations are faster by hand versus on-screen, and how to avoid the trap of over-relying on the calculator at the expense of time.

What is the GMAT Focus Edition format?
The GMAT Focus Edition has three sections: Quantitative Reasoning (21 questions, 45 minutes), Verbal Reasoning (23 questions, 45 minutes), and Data Insights (20 questions, 45 minutes). Total testing time is 2 hours 15 minutes with one optional 10-minute break. Score scale: 205–805. Each section scored 60–90. Key changes from the old GMAT: AWA removed, Sentence Correction eliminated, Data Sufficiency moved to Data Insights, flexible section order, question review and edit feature, and Select Score preview before reporting.
What GMAT score do I need for a top MBA program?
M7 programs — Harvard, Stanford, Wharton, Booth, Kellogg, Columbia, MIT Sloan — typically have median enrolled GMAT Focus scores between 720 and 760. A 700 is competitive for most top-25 programs. A 645+ is competitive for strong regional programs. ConnectPrep sets score targets based on your specific school list, work experience, and overall application profile — not generic benchmarks.
What is Data Insights and how should I prepare for it?
Data Insights is the newest GMAT Focus section, replacing Integrated Reasoning. It has 20 questions in 45 minutes across five question types: Data Sufficiency, Multi-Source Reasoning, Table Analysis, Graphics Interpretation, and Two-Part Analysis. An on-screen calculator is available. Most students underestimate DI and over-focus on Quant and Verbal — ConnectPrep trains all five DI question types explicitly with separate strategies for each, from week one.
How long does GMAT prep take?
Most students need 8 to 12 weeks. Working professionals typically allocate 10 to 15 hours per week. ConnectPrep recommends taking the GMAT 3 to 4 months before your earliest application deadline — allowing time for score delivery (7 days), potential retakes (16-day minimum wait), and application time. The GMAT is available year-round, both online and at Pearson VUE centers, so scheduling flexibility is excellent.
GMAT vs. GRE — which test should I take for business school?
Most top MBA programs accept both. The GMAT Focus Edition is specifically designed for business school and signals commitment to the MBA path. The GRE is better if you are also considering non-business programs. The Focus Edition's updated Verbal section (no Sentence Correction) levels the playing field for non-native English speakers. ConnectPrep offers free diagnostics on both and advises based on your strengths and your target programs before you commit to either. See our GRE prep page ›
What is the GMAT Select Score feature?
Select Score allows you to preview your unofficial GMAT score immediately after the exam — before deciding whether to cancel it or report it to schools. This is a significant strategic advantage. You can keep the score or cancel it, with no schools ever seeing a cancelled score. ConnectPrep advises all students on Select Score strategy — including how to decide in the moment whether the score is reportable based on your pre-established target range.
How many times can I take the GMAT?
You can take the GMAT Focus Edition up to 5 times in any 12-month rolling period, with a minimum of 16 days between attempts. There is a lifetime limit of 8 attempts. Scores are valid for 5 years. The GMAT is available year-round — online with remote proctoring (24/7) or at Pearson VUE test centers worldwide.
Do you offer GMAT tutoring for working professionals?
Yes — most ConnectPrep GMAT students are working professionals. Sessions are scheduled evenings, early mornings, and weekends, delivered live online for maximum flexibility. ConnectPrep builds realistic 10–15 hour weekly study plans around your job, your application deadlines, and your availability. For students with tighter windows, we offer focused intensive programs targeting the highest-impact improvements in the shortest timeframe.
